Jonathan Gressel joined the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service in 1984, after obtaining an M.S. in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida. His Foreign Service career includes assignments in Beijing, China (1988-91); Lagos, Nigeria (1991-93); Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (1993-97); Taipei, Taiwan (2000-04; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2004-2007). In October 2007, Jonathan Gressel will be posted as the Agricultural Counselor of the American Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. He will be the senior U.S. Department of Agriculture official in Iraq.
